Humboldt Penguins
(Spheniscus humboldti)
The humboldt penguin is found on the rugged coast and offshore islands of Chile and Peru. It is sometimes called the Peruvian penguin. The humboldt penguin is 24 inches tall and weighs 6.5 to 11 pounds. Humboldt penguins have a thick black upside down horseshoe shape on their belly. They look like the African penguin, but are shorter with longer flippers. The Humboldt penguin is an endangered species. There are only 10,000 birds in the wild today.
